Easier said than done! With so many writing jobs being advertised on the net, it would be foolhardy to say that finding a good writing job online is very easy. It is not as simple as you think. So what does it take to find that one elusive job that can bring you the contentment of doing a great job and also being rewarded amply? How do we ensure we are not taken for a ride by the portals that advertise jobs but never pay us, in our quest for that elusive job? So how do we remove the chaff from the grain? In this article we will try and answer many of these niggling questions.

Be Net Savvy: This advice is applies to anyone who is on the lookout for a good break in their careers. It is important to be net savvy. We need to know what to look out for and how to reach it by using the internet. To track jobs you may you have to learn how to use ‘Google’ or ‘Yahoo’ or any other search engine. Learn how to use keywords. For example, India technical writing jobs, writers wanted in India, copywriting jobs in India etc, could open many sites, which may have the jobs that you are looking for. So the key thing here is to learn to use the net effectively.

Registering on Job Sites: There are many job sites where you can register. Post your resume and other details there and the site will allow prospective employers to go through your resume, which could open doors to some plum jobs. For e.g., naukri.com, rediff.com, onlinemedia.in etc.

Beware of Sites That Charge: Beware of employment sites, which charge some amount as fees. It is better to research them before you pay any amount. Find out their success rates and talk to people who have been placed by this company, it is important to know your facts beforehand.

Blog: It is the in thing to do and you achieve a lot of visibility when you start blogging. Pick up an active blogging website like ‘Blogspot’ or Sulekha.com and publish your articles, posts anything. Do take some time and read the posts of your fellow bloggers and leave comments. This will ensure that they come back to read your posts and very soon you will have a loyal readership.

Community Specific Groups: You need to know how to search to find a relevant community that relates to your genre or interest. Through these groups you’ll find new avenues opening up for online writing jobs.

Network: Meet or mail people who share similar interests and connect with organizations and portals that publish writing job ads or need people to work on the net. Tell them about your passion for writing and let them know that you are looking for a good break and would love to write for portals or websites. Nothing works better than networking.

Online Newsletters: Go to writing portals and register yourself for their newsletters. These newsletters are vital for they will give you updates about their portal and also about writing jobs if any. In fact this is the surest and safest method to look for a job online and they usually work even if it takes a little more time than most others.

Visit Websites of Organizations: Many organizations look out for writers who can write from home these days, so visit the websites of organizations and chances are there that you may land yourself a good job. These organizations would want people to write ‘White papers’ or do some writing for their internal communications team and they are all done online or in a work from home format.

Start Your Own Website: If you want to be noticed for your writing skills, start your own website – post humor columns, stories, poems, articles on current affairs, movie reviews anything that will attract attention to the site. Go ahead and encourage advertisements, for advertisements usually bring in visibility. For every visit to your portal by people you will be paid by the advertising company and chances are there that publishers like Penguin or Roli may even notice your writing.

Hone Your Writing Skills: Join writing classes, forums that discuss writing, take tips from celebrated writers and attend workshops. This will connect you to people who may give you the much-needed break.

Persevere: Nothing pays like perseverance. Keep visiting websites and job portals and be on the lookout for your dream job. In due course you will definitely land that dream job.

Add Bylines to Your Articles: Offer to write for online portals that deal with marriages, relationships, health or anything that you would love to dabble in even if it is for free, but insist on a byline. This would mean that you will be recognized for your writing and this in turn will bring in more readership.

Good Writing Skills: There is no substitute for good writing skills. Take writing courses, get feedback on your work and allow fellow writers to review your work so you can continuously improve.

Showcase Your Talent: You can do this by posting your articles on the net. There are many sites, which hold competitions for creative writing or on essays, go ahead and post as many articles as you want, even if you don’t win, you will definitely be read and people will recognize you.

Read More: You cannot write well unless you are well read. Increase your general awareness and be up to date with current affairs.

We hope that these time tested tips will help you find a good writing job online!

First of all writing is not for everyone, you need to have a wealth of patience, skill and creativity and above all in-depth information on the topic that you are writing.

You can submit articles in Squidoo.com, Associated Content, Ezinearticles.com etc etc on the topic of your interest.

The money making opportunity with Articles are enormous !
