Freelance Writing: The New Age Business

Freelance writing has been a passion for ages now, both with writers as well as people who do not write for a living. But if one were to study trends, one would realize that it is recession–as nothing else– that has given an impetus to conceive and structure freelance writing as a small home based business (SHBBs). With the Internet helping in a major way, of course.

As loss of jobs resulted in more disillusionment with the corporate sector, big and small corporations alike, as jobs became scarce, more people took up freelance writing seriously as an enterprise, keeping records and proper accounts as they grew, focusing on contracts, adding services to their SHBB. In fact, writers realized there could be many more opportunities for freelance work during a recession when companies have drastically pruned their internal workforce–providing scope for a proper business through sheer volumes.

Freelance writing is especially suited to SHBBs because (1) investment is low, with the initial need being only for a computer and an Internet connection, and(2) one has greater control over the end product, even in cases where work is hived off to others who sub contract. Do you think freelance writing is a good SHBB idea? If so, what do you think should be done  to do to make it a successful venture?
