Winners of the Contest
After an overwhelming response from all our young writers, we’re happy to announce the winners of the Writing Bee contest.
The judging process took place over the past month and the selection criteria included creativity and style as well as grammar, punctuation and spelling. Our judges have picked 1 winner in each Group but also wanted to make a special mention of the others who did extremely well but missed out on winning.
All the entries showed remarkable creativity and flair and its clear that there is plenty of young talent just waiting to be tapped.
All the best to all the young writers who took the first step towards careers as future journalists, reviewers and writers!
THE WINNERS
Group A: Rohit Rao
Charlie Small – The Barbarous Brigands of Frostbite Pass
by Rohit Rao
What the judges said about his writing:
With a clear style that captures and holds the reader’s interest, and content that is set out in neat paragraphs to form the different sections of the review, Rohit takes us from an introduction to the book and the effect it had on him to a description of the characters and why the book appeals, before recommending the series to all those with a sense of adventure. This young writer has an undeniable flair for writing. Watch out for him in the future!
Group B: Jahnavi Visvanathan
Maximum Ride – The Angel Experiment
by Jahnavi Visvanathan
What the judges said about her writing:
With a refreshing style that will appeal to her own age group, who probably make up the majority of the target readership, Jahnavi ‘s review of Patterson’s thriller is a departure from the staid, formal one you might expect – but one that’s so in tune with the unorthodox plot of the book she reviews! She tells you all you need to know to get you hooked – about the kids who are the products of genetic experiments, the excitement of a racy plot – as she draws her readers in with passing references to their own daily lives. Jahnavi concludes with a final flourish: “remember to hold on tight—these pages fly.”

The Indian writing Bee contest is a very thoughtful young writer’s contest. It encourages young talent and provides a good platform for exhibiting writing skills. Thanks to Chillibreeze for coming up with such idea and hope many more such contests will be held.
