1. Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh

After a certain age, we tend to go for holidays to places which are familiar or where we do not expect too much activity and hustle and bustle. Dalhousie is one of those places – nothing seems to change there, at least in the area where we have our home. The pine trees, the mountain ranges which almost seem to be within touching distance, and level walks all around us, what more can we ask for. We spend most of our time sitting out in the garden, an occasional walk when we feel energetic, and lots of good food and wine. There are very few sounds around us, and no one ever seems to raise their voice above the level of a whisper.

Total bliss, and absolute peace, what more can we ask for in a hill station?

2. East Pond In Maine, USA

Time seems to have stood still in this quiet community. All homes are situated around the lakes, and every one of the homes seems to be covered with trees. The water is warm, and like the children who spend the time there, there is a desire to just jump into the lake whenever we feel like it. During the fall season, the innumerable colors on the leaves makes it look like a picture postcard. Time moves slowly here, and the rigors and stresses of city life do not seem to exist. You smile a lot more, you walk slowly, and the pace of life just seems to become more relaxed.

3. Kumarakom in Kerala

One of the really beautiful tourist havens of India, Kumarakom seems to be a world apart. The lake is beautiful, and the fact that it is a man made lake somehow seems to add to its grandeur. There are many beautiful resorts on the shores of the lake, ranging from the exotic to the budget rooms. No matter where one stays, a mandatory ride on the houseboat is part of the itinerary. Or maybe you can choose to stay on a houseboat while you are there. The food, of course, is superb. Some of the best seafood dishes are made here. A place that beckons you again and again.

4. Alaskan Cruise

Value for money – there is nothing like a cruise!
Great cabins, good food and lots of it and entertainment – all part of the same package.
If you are going on a cruise for the first time, the Alaskan cruise is by far the best option. The scenery is phenomenal, the cruise is of only one week and there are fewer port stopovers so you can spend a lot of happy times on the ship.
Do remember to exercise regularly while you are on board! With so much good food available, the tendency is to gorge and forget about the consequences

5. Driving through Spain

Spain is undoubtedly one of the best holiday destinations in Europe. The hotels and resorts are not too expensive, the food is great and reasonably priced, and the people are great. there is so much to see and o in Spain, that you can easily spend a lot of time there.

The best way would be to hire a car in Madrid or Barcelona, or any port of entry. Drive along the Malaga coastline, and stay at the many resorts which dot the Mediterranean sea. The weather is beautiful in summer and it is easy to just meander around the many small villages. Do attend one of the farmer’s markets there – great food, great ambiance and many bargains to be had. Madrid and Barcelona are the usual tourist spots and so is Cordoba, but the smaller towns and villages also offer a lot of scenic vistas and entertainment

6. Las Vegas – the ultimate entertainment centre

Lights, action and entertainment – what more are you looking for? Even if you are not fond of gambling, Las Vegas has so much more to offer than just casinos. Each hotel is built on magnificent lines, and just walking through them is an awesome experience. They offer buffets at ridiculous prices, and even gourmet restaurants which serve some of the world’s best meals – but of course at much higher prices. The shows are amazing and you can book the late tickets at good prices and manage to see some of the best performers there.

Walk around the main strip in the evenings, and watch a breathtaking neon display. Walk into a large hotel and forget the outside world. Walk into the Venetian and be transported to Venice. Walk into New York New York, and of course be transported to New York.

All this and much more in just one small city.
