Responses to this week’s contest question:

We’d like to say a heartfelt Thank you to all the writers who posted their entries. We hope you will continue to actively participate in our contests.

We enjoyed going through all the entries that celebrated the writers who inspire us.

The winner of this week’s contest is Agomonee Barbaruah!

Agomonee’s entry: I generally like fiction. I love the way the writer’s imagination draws you into a different world and in the middle of somewhere you dont know, it tells you the secrets. I love fantasy and am totally in love with stuff like Harry Potter, but no, it doesnt influence the way I write. Quite contrarily, I write non-fiction, if I may say. Regular life, and its varied closets of gifts and secrets. I love the human mind. Its more dense than the human heart I believe and is hence less explicable.

Congratulations Agomonee! Our editor picked your entry as it captures the joy of reading fantasy fiction that whisks one away into a magical world.

The entries were all wonderful, without exception!

My favourite genre is the coming-of-age novel. The chrysalis stage where the caterpillar in us metamorphoses into a butterfly is undoubtedly the most beautifully poignant experience one could go through. A book that is already closer to my own writing style may influence me a little. For instance, I equally admire To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and The House On Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros but only the latter could creep into my consciousness when I write, as I’m more into poetry, lyrical prose and short fiction.

The literary genre I prefer to read is research based non-fiction or some fictional story, woven around an issue of utmost importance that requires immediate attention. Such kind of work requires a good deal of devotion and determination and writer has to go deep into the skin of the issue, rather handling it superficially. A pure readers’ delight to know about any such issue in greater depths that also gives credibility to writer’s work and worth to reader’s time. An exemplary work entitled as Hungry Tide by Amitav Ghosh validates my point.

I love any fiction or non-fiction written on relationship. It requires a lot of skill to potray the emotional turmoil that plays a major role in balancing the relationships.
