11-07-2011, 02:46 PMMy response here
I did check out the Quick Guide to Plain English and found it to be very useful. The section on Nominalizations and Short Sentences was very helpful as I have used lengthy sentences to cram in a lot of information. I am also guilty of using Power Words' to make my report/presentation technical and successful as I was dealing/reviewing plan applications as an architect and the phrase "your plan is under consideration" etc was very common......will definitely try to correct myself from now. Looking forward to more such resources.

11-07-2011, 06:37 PMHi Ananya and Lakshmi,
I have downloaded and read this - I did it a few months back. Is there anything else that it new from Chillibreeze on this plain English thing? If yes, can you point me to those resources?

Thanks Laxmi Rajagopalan, for starting such a useful discussion. For quite sometime now, there have been hardly any posts relevant to writing and improving quality of writing.
The tips given for writing Plain English are basic and would alert writers to keep them on track. However, some more examples and exercises showing how to write Plain English could have been added to lay stress.
I could not open Sneak Preview though.

11-09-2011, 05:07 PMHi Satish,
The Sneak Preview should take you to this link: Plain English Training Kit - A Sneak Peek where you can follow the checkout process (even though this product is free, the process has to be followed). After the process is complete, you will receive the download link to the sneak preview.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Lakshmi Rajagopalan

What is plain English?
Plain English (PE) or Plain Language (PL) is a writing style that aims at clarity and simplicity. When you use plain English in your business and other communication, your audience understands what you're saying the very first time they read it. There is no scope for confusion or ambiguity, and they certainly won’t have to reach for a dictionary or thesaurus! But plain English is not just a simplified writing style. It is more than short sentences, familiar words and jargon-free text. Chillibreeze has been leading the effort to popularize plain English in India. Our quick e-Guide gives you a peek into techniques and tips that will help you communicate in plain English.
