A Report of the Writer Meet Bangalore

The Chillibreeze writer meet at Jaaga in Bangalore on 26^th June was attended by a small but lively bunch of writers who were undeterred by the pouring rain. There was a bit of a problem initially as Jaaga, is a semi open venue. So after waiting for a few minutes for the rain to subside the writer meet started at 4:25PM.

Nina Mukherjee, coordinator for the Bangalore chapter welcomed the participants and gave a brief introduction about Chillibreeze followed by information on the assessments, expert review services e-publishing and the newly launched online workshops and courses.

Nina introduced the Guest speaker Hema Narayanan, a well known photographer and travel writer. Hema spoke about photography and how it complements writing. Her talk was well received and she took a number of questions from the participants.

The discussion moved to online forums and when Nina asked the writers what would make them participate more actively on the forums. They responded that they would like to receive a newsletter from Chillibreeze or a reminder email once a fortnight giving them some interesting news as a sort of a reminder to log on to the forum.

Another feedback which was very strong is that they would like to be informed when they are not selected for a Chillibreeze project. Nina told them that the project mails that Chillibreeze sends out clearly state – “that we will get back to you if you are selected’. But the writers felt that even a line saying the project is closed or they have not been selected will help, as it would be like closing the loop for them.

Many of the writers were looking for more work. They felt that Chillibreeze should negotiate for better rates. They also wanted want to be able to view other writer’s profiles in detail and also have their profiles up in Chillibreeze. This they feel will give them more visibility and enable them to get more work as well. Conversation flowed freely and the writers shared their ideas and participated with enthusiasm. They promised to stay in touch and said they were looking forward to more workshops and meets from Chillibreeze.
