Chillibreeze Write-Meet-January-2009-Mumbai

Mumbai saw a resounding response to its first Write Meet, with about 30 writers at the event, including many who travelled from as far as Pune to attend.

Mumbai’s very first Chillibreeze Write Meet began at 10.15 am at Hiranandani Gardens in Powai. Writers from a variety of backgrounds attended, including some senior feature writers and published authors.

WriteMeetMumbai01 Post registration formalities where each writer was handed a Chillibreeze Write Meet Welcome Kit with a folder, an id tag, handouts of the presentations and a feedback and contest form, writers were given time to interact.
Next came a round of introductions where writers introduced the person seated next to them. Some witty introductions got the gathering smiling and helped everyone get to know each other better. WriteMeetMumbai02
WriteMeetMumbai03 The presentations kicked off with Gayathri Thakoor’s talk – My ‘Children’s Most Wanted’. Kirti Desai, her business partner at Nanogems, a partnership firm writing, developing & designing storybooks & educational content for children was also present. The talk generated some discussions on what children today are looking for and what they relate to.
Kavitha Rao, a well known writer, editor and journalism trainer with work published in leading international & national publications began by reading out her work ‘ Let’s talk about AIDS’. The writers took the opportunity to also get tips from Kavitha on pitching to magazines and editors and on rates one could command globally and in India as a freelance feature writer. WriteMeetMumbai05 Next, Sheela Jaywant talked about her work, getting published and the difference between vanity and self publishing, plus options available. This sparked off a series of questions and writers with marketing know-how shared ideas, tips and suggestions. Dr. Nishi explained Chillibreeze’s own epublishing option to interested writers and the review service on Chillibreeze for those who wanted their work enhanced/edited.
Dr. Nishi assisted by Pallavi then took questions on Chillibreeze and the various options available to writers via these two websites. WriteMeetMumbai07 Rajeshwar Singh, winner of our tagline contest bagged a Rs 500 Crossword gift voucher. He was also the senior most person to attend the meet but gave the younger writers a run for their money with his active participation throughout.
