It does not require any special ability to have your name recognized online other than a passion for writing and the ability to translate your ideas and thoughts into the written word. Once you do this you need an audience who can read it, comment on it and in the process recognize your name and work. So how does it work, what does it take to make others recognize your name and work online? We will try and answer some of these questions about how to make it happen.

  1. Contribute to newspapers: These days most newspapers are available online. When you contribute any piece of work – a travelogue, story or even verse – and if they are published, they are automatically uploaded on the net and people get to see it. This would mean that your name and work gets recognition instantly.
  2. Blog: The in thing these days is to blog. So go ahead and register yourself on one of the happening blog sites and blog away like there is no tomorrow.
  3. Drop Comments: When you blog on your space, do take some time to go and read the blogs of other bloggers too. Go ahead and drop in a comment, encourage people to view your blogs and ask them to give you their feedback.
  4. Network: Go ahead and make friends on the blogging site, the more friends that you have, the more people that will visit your site. This will increase your readership base and the number of comments and views on your site.
  5. Discussions or Forums on the net: Join discussion groups or forums and write about topics that you feel strongly. If you write well and if you can judge the pulse of the people in the forum and if you can write for them, then your writing will be synonymous with your name.
  6. Offer to write for websites: There are many websites and most of these websites need good writers. In case these websites do not pay any money, it is okay, it is important to get a readership base initially so you should go ahead and write for such websites.
  7. Writing should be varied: As a writer it is imperative that we learn to vary our writing. If you specialize in writing poems, but if you are in a forum which discusses or writes short stories, then you may have to hone your writing skills to write short stories. If you cannot feel the pulse of your readers then you will never be noticed.
  8. Be Yourself: It is important that once you blog or write; you would need readers to keep coming back to your blog to check you out. Your blogging life could very well die a quick death if there is no traffic coming to your blog space. To do this you will have to write about topics that you are passionate about. Use a tone that is conversational and make the reader feel that you are speaking to him. There is no harm in showing that you are well aware of what you are writing about. Ask for feedback – when you do this, it sparks off healthy debates and when there are debates, there will be plenty of traffic to your space.
  9. Style: It is essential to have a good style of writing. Only when you have your own inimitable style of writing will you have people coming to your blogs. Good writers have their own unique style of writing. Without your individual touch readers may not find anything ‘fresh’ about your site and will soon be bored with you. So it is imperative to be natural and make the readers feel that you are talking to them directly.
  10. Grammar is essential: English is not known as the Queen’s language for nothing. It is essential to use punctuation marks, capitalizations etc., wherever necessary. A well researched but grammatically flawed piece of writing will sink without a trace. Spelling mistakes are unpardonable, so go ahead and use the spell check and double check for errors. Do not ever write as you would do when texting messages from a mobile, it is one thing that can put a reader off.
  11. Crisp and concise: Be as crisp and concise as possible. Do not beat around the bush and do not go around in circles. Whatever you need to tell the writer, go ahead and tell him in not too many words. People do not have much time and skim when reading on the net, so it is better to say what one has to say at the beginning of the article.
  12. Finding a niche for yourself: It is important to write something that you are comfortable with and you are good at. So go ahead and write that story that you have been wanting to write and write it well. You will be known for the stories that you write. This is the niche that you will be creating for yourself. If travel writing is your thing, write about a new destination every week. Discover your niche and pursue it with passion!

These are some of the tips that we have for you to make a name for yourself online. We hope they work for you!
