The Internet is a vast ocean of un-connected information. And a market place par excellence. Not governed or controlled by any one entity. It’s a medium that knows no boundaries nor follows any rigid rules. A world that is also visited by millions every second. What better place to showcase your talent and peddle your ware?
Make the Internet work for you. Turn its- many- features to your advantage
You have a computer. You have an Internet connection .And most importantly you have the language-English. It can’t get any better than that!
- Search Engines: The search engines are many. Make them your trusted lieutenants. Google and Yahoo will go far and wide. Will dig deep and distant. All the information you need is just a search away.
- Wikipedia: A free online encyclopedia with over two million articles and counting. Can it get any better than that? Search, research; shift the chaff from the wheat. Turn it around to suit your purpose.
- Free Sites: You have no contacts and unsympathetic editors have rejected your masterpieces. And there are no more avenues to explore? Wrong. There are many sites that will accept them. They don’t pay its true (ezinearticles.com) and even if they do its workings are a mystery (shoovng.com) or it takes a long time in coming (ac.com).Nevertheless, a nice place to start.
- Newsletters: Every writing.com worth its name has a newsletter flying off its site frequently. They need articles for free. Send them yours, chances are that they will be accepted! Another successful stab at being published?
- Blogs: You are tired of chasing editors and floating your pieces of wisdom around. You simply want to be published or posted. Well then why don’t you set up your own Blog? It’s easily the best thing to do. It showcases your talent as nothing else will. It could also generate revenue. A sure way to attract markets.
- Bidding Sites: Of these there are many. You don’t need anyone’s nod to bid for projects. Send in your bids each time a project is posted. There are some who have struck lucky the very first time. You could too!
- Contests: Most writing.coms entice talent through contests. Another good place for you to be peddling your ware. If you win, the exposure gained is tremendous. If you don’t the experience and confidence gained is no less.
- Online writing communities: Yahoo has many of these. Become a member. It gives you a sense of belonging and a chance to interact with the writing fraternity .Use it to your advantage. The gains are many the efforts minimal.
- Social Sites: What would interactive social sites (Facebook, Orkut) have anything to do with writers? Lots! Many a chat has led to many a writing contract.
- Email: The one single most important tool of the Internet. Without it your career is a nonstarter. Use it to further your cause. To promote your career. This is one tool that will be the making of you as a freelance-writer. It’s priceless.
