YMCA – Young Men’s Christian Association offers professional courses through its New Delhi center, Institute of Media Studies & Information Technology [IMSIT]. Started in 1984 as the Center for Mass Media (CMM), it merged with the Center for Graphics Art and Designing (CGAD) in 2000. It was renamed the Institute of Media Studies & Information Technology (IMSIT) and now offers media and information technology courses.
Courses offered
The IMSIT offers courses under three broad heads:
Mass Media
- One year P.G. Diploma in Journalism (English & Hindi)
- One year P.G. Diploma in Advertising & Marketing
- One year P.G. Diploma in Public Relations & Marketing
- One year Advance Diploma in Television Production & Journalism
- One year Diploma in Applied Arts
The courses are comprehensive and cover reporting, writing, magazine production, advertising principles and practices, promotional strategies, graphics, script writing techniques, audio-visual production, linear and non-linear editing as is applicable under each program.
Information Technology:
- One year Diploma in Digital Video & Broadcast Animation (DVBA)
- One year Diploma in computer Application (DCA)
Once again, the course content is comprehensive and covers subjects suited to meet the changing market trends. These courses are open to candidates who have completed 10+2 education.
Short Term Certificate Courses:
IMSIT also offers short-term certificate courses. The duration of these courses range from 3 weeks to 6 weeks. Open to candidates who have completed 10+2 education, the courses include:
- TV /Radio news reading
- Radio Jockeying and stage anchoring
- Sports coverage, writing and commentary
- Voice over training
- Web designing
- Non-Linear editing
- Interactive multimedia presentation
Admission info
All P.G.diploma and IT diploma courses require an entrance examination. Shortlisted candidates then have to appear for an interview. 10+2 candidates can apply for direct admission to the short-term certificate courses.
Other activities/ facilities
IMSIT has well equipped computer labs, TV and radio studios. The institute also boasts of a well-stocked library with latest books on different subjects.
Fee:
The fee structure is revised every year. Following is the approximate cost based on the 2009-2010 academic year:
Media courses – ranges from Rs.35, 000 to Rs.65, 000 based on the course
IT Courses – ranges from Rs.29, 000 to Rs.42, 000 based on the course
Short-term Certificate courses – ranges from Rs.3000 to Rs.15000 based on the course.
