Profile of Journalism Mentor

Journalism Mentor, a one-year mentorship program for aspiring journalists, is the entrepreneurial initiative of senior journalists, Shishir Joshi and Dr. Aloke Thakore. Launched in Mumbai in August 2009, the program is not accredited or affiliated to any institution, Indian university or government body.

Course offered

Journalism Mentor offers a 12-month intensive program designed for those who are interested in pursuing journalism as a career. Students will be awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism at the end of this course.

The 12-month program is divided into 4 quarters. Each student is expected to take four courses (subjects) every quarter. The first and second quarters have four compulsory courses, while the third and fourth quarters have three compulsory courses and one elective from a choice of five different courses.

Admission Information

This is an exclusive program where 25 students are handpicked after a nation-wide screening. The admission process involves submitting a 500 word autobiographical essay and a 500 word SOP, followed by an interview. A panel of acclaimed journalists will conduct the screening.

Other Facilities

Each student is provided with a desktop computer and necessary software required for the course. Students will also be provided reading material and access to a well-equipped library.

Fees

The mentorship fee is Rs. 200,000 excluding the cost of books.
