When I turned six, my grandmother gave me a wonderful book to read. My mother had read it as a little girl. This was my first big book and is my favourite. It is called “The Enchanted wood” by Enid Blyton. It is the first book in the trilogy about the Faraway tree. Three children called Jo, Bessie and Fanny discover the Faraway tree in the Enchanted woods, have wonderful adventures and make new friends. It is an amazing tree. It seems to reach up to the sky and as the children climb it, they find different things growing on it – oranges, cherries and sometimes even acorns. In the topmost branch, there is always a different magical land. There are even doors and windows in the tree trunk. Magical creatures like brownies, pixies, elves and goblins live in the tree. The children meet the angry pixie who throws things at those who peep in his window. There is Dame Washalot who is always washing. Everyone should watch out for her water in case it makes their clothes wet. There is a gnome who is always asleep and snoring called Mister Watzisname because nobody knows his real name. There are kind people like Silky and Moonface who become the children’s best friends. Silky is a beautiful elf with silky golden hair. Moon face is her friend whose face looks like the moon. They also meet a funny man called The Saucepan man. He always hears things wrong. He has kettles and saucepans tied all around him which make a clattering and banging noise. Together, they go up the ladder into the cloud into different lands. Sometimes, the lands at the top are horrid like the Land of Dame Snap, the Land of Topsy Turvy and the Land of punishments. They get into a lot of trouble, but somehow help each other and come back safely to the Faraway tree. There are sometimes nice lands like the Land of Tea parties, the Land of goodies and the Land of Take what you want. My favourite land is the Land of birthdays. I wish I could have my birthday party there. When it’s time for snacks, the children get to eat lovely treats which Silky and Moonface give them. They have pop biscuits which go pop and fills their mouths with honey. They also have yummy google buns. My favourite character in this book is Moonface. He is very kind and brave and always helps his friends when they get into trouble. He also has a beautiful home where everything is round like his face. He has a special slide called the Slippery slip. It goes right down the trunk of the tree. After each adventure, the children go back home safely. But, they can’t wait to go back to the tree for more adventures. I want all children to read this book so that they can enjoy it as much as I did.

The Faraway tree by Enid Blyton is very nice imagination. It is very funny. I love it very much. I like four characters in this storyvery much. They are Silky, Bessy, Fanny and Jo. I like the imagination of different fruits growing on one enormous tree. The slippery slip through which the children get down from the tree, the toffee shocks, pop biscuits, the Land of Tea Parties and the Land of Goodies were excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. This is the most favorite story of mine.
I am 8 years old. I read the story Faraway tree this year
