Beginning and Endings

From the first sentence or paragraph of your story, you should be able to hook the reader and keep him on your line till the last sentence of your story.  He must be moved forward to an inevitable and credible outcome.

I find that I spontaneously come up with my first sentence, but this is only after the story idea has been brewing inside my head for a while – a couple of weeks or a month. A born writer will find that he is haunted by his story in the making and even his thoughts as he goes to sleep at night and rises in the morning revolve around his story.  And finally when I put pen to paper, I write the complete story in one go. I believe one must get it all down when the creative energy is at its peak – and that is when you write the first sentence down. Once you do that, you are propelled forward to discover for yourself where it will lead.  I do not determine the endings of my stories in advance and so, the process of writing is an adventure and an exploration of the vast recesses of my mind.
