A US study points to several interesting facts about the demographics and behavior of book buyers in that country.
Two interesting facts, which could be an indicator of global trends:
- Women made the majority of the purchases in the paperback, hardcover and audio-book segments, but men accounted for 55% of e-book purchases.
- Generation X consumers buy more books online than any other demographic group, with 30% of them buying their books through the Internet

As of now, publishers are battling pricing issues as far as eBooks are concerned. Many top publishers and literary agents are avoiding launch of new works in eBook formats. However, in the recent past, top fiction books have been available in Kindle format.
There is lot of uncertainty in the publishing world. eBooks are here to stay but how the industry will shape up in the future is anybody’s bet.
