The digital medium is taking over the publishing industry as one of the most preferred media for kids. As a result several interesting players in children’s publishing in India have made forays or have redefined their focus, in tune with the technology trends.
Here are some interesting players:
Karadi Tales – This belongs to the well known Amar Chitra Katha family and has emerged as a popular publisher for audio books. Interesting stories anchored by some best known film and theatre personalities, Karadi tales are a hit with Indian kids.
Bookbox - This Chennai based company offers digital books for children in different languages. They have build on the concept of same language subtitling. There appear to be some technical issues with respect to transactions, but they do have some interesting ideas and content.
Penguin is going to be the big player. Penguin is expected to launch eBooks in the Indian market by end 2009.
As for Chillibreeze, we have published the malaria book and also two interesting eBooks with beautiful illustrations for kids. We hope to take this forward.
