Some people just become famous overnight. An ideal example is that of Susan Boyle. Before the month of April 09, she was just an ordinary person. But after 11th April 09, her life changed forever. The reason being that on that day, she being a participant of Britain’s Got Talent (the Indian equivalent of India Idol ), went up to the stage for her performance. Immediately the audience started hooting and jeering at her because of her physical appearance. She was a plump, dowdy looking woman with an unkempt hair style.

But Susan was not to be cowed down. With a confident smile she began singing… I Dreamed A Dream, from the famous musical Les Miserables…and what an irony it was! The same audience which was behaving in an unruly manner was shell-shocked after listening to her melodious voice. What happened after that is history. The auditorium echoed with the thunder of the audience’s claps and everyone, including the judges, gave her a standing ovation after she had finished! What a marvelous day it was for Susan. She must not have dreamt of such a response in her whole life!

People started talking about her and how physical appearance cannot hide your inborn talent. Susan Boyle, the unknown singer with a God gifted vocal talent has made all musical critics sit up and notice her, the 48 years old singer, resides in Blackburn, Scotland, in a simple cottage. According to Susan’s vocal trainer, she was not very confident of auditioning for Britain’s Got Talent because of her non-feministic looks, but at the last minute she gathered all her courage to go for the audition.

Before she became famous, Susan was leading a simple life as a charity worker in her small county, Blackburn. Due to the recession, she was rendered unemployed prior to her audition for Britain’s Got Talent. She had previously recorded a song, “Cry Me a River” for a school charity in Whitburn, West Lothian in 1999.She was the youngest child of the family, amongst 11 siblings, who faced a number of difficulties since her childhood. After her birth Susan suffered oxygen deficiency which resulted in minor brain damage .As a result she suffered from learning disabilities during her schooling days. As a teenager she was regularly teased and bullied by her classmates, which made her an introvert person.

But she always loved singing since she belonged to a family which was very much interested in music and arts. She participated in her first school production when she was 12 years old. Later on she enrolled herself in the Edinburgh School of Acting. It was Susan’s mother who actually encouraged and shaped her musical career. She enrolled herself as a volunteer at the local church and started singing there at weekends. Though she always dreamt of becoming a professional singer, her short and plump looks discouraged her from doing so. It was only due to her mother’s dying wish that she auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent and now she has become the darling of the world’s media .Susan’s latest tryst with fame and stardom allowed her to appear on the Larry King Show and she has also been booked to appear in an upcoming Oprah Winfrey Show.

Susan has really shown the world that if you can dream a DREAM, you can always ACHIEVE IT.
