Since times immemorial man has always strived to come on top of his surroundings. This urge to be better than the rest is what put the human race ahead of other species. We have learnt to stretch our limits and create paths where there were none. And the outcome of this perseverance and endurance on the constraints that nature puts on us is that we have created a new world order- where advancement on science, astronomy, medicine, technology breaks new barriers each day.
The average life expectancy of human beings has increased where certain other species are facing extinction. This would lead us to believe that we are the masters of our own fate. But as the saying goes, ‘As much as things change, they remain the same’. With all developments been made, we haven’t ceased our dependency on Mother Nature. Today, we are staring at a scenario where nature has started wreaking havoc on our lives. Climatic changes, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis are becoming increasing frequent. Monsoons have become unpredictable and the temperature has been soaring each consecutive year. Forests and wildlife have been shrinking
In our race to claim superiority and a better understanding of self, we have exploited nature no end and there seems to be way that this situation can be reversed. We have created a chasm which probably might not affect our own individual lives, but to the coming generations we are leaving a legacy of depleted natural resources and an increasing hostile and unpredictable geology.
This never ending cycle of abuse on nature cannot be reversed. IT can only be contained. And we must each take onus on ourselves to do our bit to conserve these non renewable resources. Be it limiting our water and power usage, or opting for paper free methods of conserving data- no measure is too small or too big in our undertaking to save the world from its grave future. Let us as conscientious and educated people spread this awareness in our circle of friends and in our families to conserve these priceless resources.
