Seven Trigger Points to Managing Your Acne
I was once questioned by my little sister, “How is that your skin so soft and acne free while mine is full of them, in spite of the care that I take?” I laughed and said, “It’s the life style honey that we both lead.” As we all know that there are thousands of ways to manage the acne problem but the best ways is to have a look at the life style that you lead. For example, an added pressure at work or a stressful life that one leads.
When we talk about acne, we first need to answer the question,” What is Acne?” Acne also known as pimples to most people is a group of skin rashes with different causes, a most common inflammatory skin disease which affects the skin’s oil glands. It’s not a serious health threat but may cause scars. It is mostly found on the back, chest, face, shoulders and neck. There are many types of acnes, for example, Pustules (red with pus on the top), Nodules (large, deep, and painful in the skin), White heads (these stay under the surface of the skin), etc. There are different treatments to each one of them and since every person’s skin is different there is a possibility that the treatment that might suit me best may be ineffective on your skin. Here are few tips that can help you manage your acne effectively.
Our lifestyle plays a key factor when it comes to managing acne. Leading a stress free life style is not always possible but stress can be minimised by sleeping well, exercising, regular eating habits, practising yoga etc. This is the first and the most vital trigger that can help you manage your acne. Our eating habits also play an important part; in fact 90 percent of the people with acne problem have bad eating habits. They either do not eat on time or their food is high on fatty substances that alter the sebum production (oil) on high scale and this causes acne. Some people consume a high amount of tea coffee or cola which tends to dehydrates their skin which is bad for the skin. You overcome this problem by drinking one extra glass of water for every cup of tea or coffee.
Our skin has pores which are connected to the oil gland. At times these pores get blocked either by dead skin cells or dirt. Cleaning of the skin regularly is a must. Try to avoid the use of soap for you face as it contact chemical that makes your skin dry. There are many types of cleansing products available in the market. You can choose the one that suits your skin type. Many a times when acne appears, a lot of people try to get rid of it by popping it out. This will only leave scar on area where the acne appeared. Instead of trying to bust it out use some ice, this will reduce the swelling and the redness and will make the blemish smaller.
Lemon juice works as a mild antibacterial agent and natural astringent. Rose petals also have antibacterial properties in them and work as a skin toner. These need to be mixed in an equal amount and applied directly to the skin. Mint leaves contain medicinal properties and the juice when applied can lessen pain and inflammation. Single serving of cooked plain oatmeal mixed with ¼ cup of honey works as exfoliating agent and cleanses pores by absorbing oil. The gel of the Aloe Vera plant is a natural antibiotic; it cools and soothes acne sores.
The list of remedies to manage acne can go on and on but every person’s skin type is different and they need to use the remedy accordingly. Some people have a serious acne problem, it could be hormonal or due to other factors. In such cases, it’s advisable to consult a skin specialist who can analyse your skin type and accordingly treat you.
