Celebrities today are in abundance, thanks to the media that has burgeoned in recent times catering to people who do not want to miss out any juicy tidbit about their favorite celebs.However i have chosen to be an exception,although that does not mean that i do not have an idol.I believe that people who have been been blessed with great resources should contribute greatly to the world they live in. In that, I have come to personally admire Bill gates in recent times.
Bill gates,as any school kid worth his desktop will tell you is the man who made the software which runs on more than 90% of the computers worldwide. He founded Microsoft in 1976 as a fledgling software company and launched the BASIC interpreter.Microsoft developed the language and later collaborated with IBM to write an operating system for their PC. The operating system they developed was DOS.This was one of the steps that launched microsoft in to the Big league thereby paving way for further successes.As the years progressed Microsoft under the aggresive leadership of Bill gates grew from strength to strength and established a dominance in the software markets which was unparalleled.Microsoft’s greatest contribution to the computer market was in the form of a GUI operating system,Windows which has been a principal OS for most of the desktops in the world.
Inspite of his professional successes and the numerous milestones under his belt Bill Gates remained down-to-earth. In 1994 he sold some of his Microsft Stock to set up the William H. Gates Foundation which later in 2000 was combined with his other foundations to create the charitable Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which is the largest transparently operated charitable foundation in the world.Bill Gates was inspired by the Philantrophic works of Rockefeller.The foundation namely works for those global problems that are ignored by governments and other organizations.To get actively in philantrophy he stepped down from the helm and continued as a mentor.This acts speak volumes about the greatness and humility of the man, who being rich also shares his wealth with the needy and the downtrodden.
As the famous pareto analysis says that 20% of the people hold 80% of the wealth, people who have been blessed with extraordinary power or wealth should have a moral responsibilty towards the upliftment of their fellow human beings and the environment. In Bill Gates, I see an entrepreneur who inspires us with his amazing sense of business and management, a philantropher who uses his wealth as a means to improve the world he lives in rather than using it to further their own interests and a humble being.
