Phenomena 2012. clearly stating that the end of world is drawing near with each passing moment , and all life on our planet is bound to confront this predicted apocalypse on 21st december 2012 A.D. The phenomena seems to have consumed the world , so much so that the protagonists have developed a firm belief on this so called ancient prediction. Phenomena 2012 surfaced on the global level when it was disclosed to the world that Mayans ,members of an ancient civilization of South America predicted that the last cycle of their calander would end in the year 2012. The fact to be reconisderd here is that, were the great Mayans actually possessing the capibility to predict the end of the civilization. Yes, it is true that they were right in stating that the last cycle of their calander would end in the year 2012, but aren’t we misinterpreting it, afterall Mayans never said that year 2012 is the end of the world. Historians also say that the prediction of Nostradomus, a renowned french philosopher, coincided with that of the Maya civilization.
Today the world is divided into the believers and disbelivers of the phenomena 2012, where the supporters of the prediction see it as a horrific curse on the civilization and the non supporters see it as nothing but a hyped issue in the media on the global level. Movies like actor Christian Bale’s Terminator Salvation, actor Will Smith’s I Am Legend and director Roland Emmrich’s 2012, give us the diverse view of the possible ends of the civilization, the movies were realistic and highly entertaining and proved that the end of the world is possibly a good plot of movie making, but it is rather strange to see that this concept is incorporated by us in our mind set. Another question rises that isn’t our planet already dying a slow death. Which is the result of the activities of our so called civilization about whose end we are so much worried. Yes, an apocalypse would come for sure, even the world is bound to end one day, but not on any date or in an year but the end would depend on the degree of the indiscriminate exploitation of nature caused by us, the humans, yes, the end is near but can never be predicted, for sure the world would end but not at once. The end is not bound by any prediction or not by a specific span of time.We consider ourselves the most intelligent beings on planet yet we are failing to save the planet each day and are waiting for an year or a date for the planet to finally collapse on itself, even when we know that we can be both saviours and destroyers of the planet we call our home. Using year 2012, as an excuse for the worsening of the consequences is not at all mature on our part.
Even in the past many predictions stating the end of the world were made,but none was so controversial like phenomena 2012, because we already know that the world is actually going towards a great decline of all times as far as the environmental status of the world is concerned. And in our era when the world is witnessing great environmental and climatic shifts, phenomena 2012 seems to be the best representative of the worsening conditions. Wether the fact that world would end on 21st december 2012, is true or not but end is bound to come and we are to decide how early we want to confront it. Maybe i m wrong, maybe the world would end on 21st december 2012, for i am not a protagonist myself. But it seems the reality of the predictions and the fate of the civilization would be disclosed only on 21st december 2012.
