Many of you may say that global warming is a natural cycle and it may well be but Man has exaggerated this process and accelerated this cycle un-naturally. We constantly pump CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, and we take natural resources from the Earth and dump our waste in to the ground and the oceans without a thought of the consequences. We have to take responsibility for what we leave for our children. We should be utterly ashamed of what we have done. There are no excuses and with this must come action to change all our ways. We cannot leave it to others to sort out. Here are a few examples of how we can change our ways personally:
- Whether it is replacing our light bulbs to energy efficient,
- Turning off the car engine while waiting for people,
- Being consciously aware when buying goods, for instance, sustainable wood products,
- Can I buy second hand and recycle,
- Recycle your goods instead of dumping them in a landfill site,
- Is the food I buy grown in my country in order to save CO2 emissions,
- Do I need to fly abroad for a meeting,
- Can I compost or recycle my waste,
- Why do I need to use so many plastic bags?
Once you get into this and get the kids involved you won’t look back.
Once you get into being conscious about what you actually do each day, it can make all the difference and if we all do it we can win this but one thing is for certain, we need to stop the trees from being destroyed and press the governments to take action NOW, no more excuses. That is why we need everyone to send letters, emails and faxes (where appropriate) to the governments of the world – even better send letters and email for it is just the cost of a stamp for a leader, and can be sent to your own country or to a country that has a Rainforest, like Brazil, Indonesia, Congo.
I am asking you to do this for the future of your earth, for people you love for their future, for the animals and insects who’s seasons we have disrupted and whose numbers are dwindling because of these sudden changes in the weather. We owe it to each other to act and take the time.
Global Impact
This section allows you to view the impact we are having on our planet and how we are changing the Earth on a regional basis. This allows you to view information from our Earth Impact and our Environmental News database in one place.
I document the following in our Earth Impact database: Volcanic Eruptions, Earthquakes, Floods, Severe Storms and Tornadoes, Drought, Heat wave and Fire, Famine, Disease, Unusual Weather, Climate Changes, Climate Records, Winter Storms, Food, Animal and Plant Kingdoms and the Seas.
But why document this?
The United Nations in their Fourth Assessment Report in 2007 stated there would be an increase in storms, floods and other climate change related events.
Although not much publicized, the interior of the Earth is warming as well. The Earth’s inner core could expel heat via volcanoes but with the surface heating up, the Earth has to balance itself so there is an increase in volcanic and seismic activity. As with everything in life, the warmer it gets, it expands in size and the Earth is no exception – further seismic activity will occur and diseases will be more common. Coupled with the melting polar ice caps, climate change is having a more disastrous impact on the Earth and our lives than we can possibly imagine.
The information shows this is correct. We were only aware of the initial effects of climate change so we cannot take credit for any of this for it was Ann Walker, after preparing a report for the UN on this, made us aware what is to come. The United Nations has confirmed 50% of Ann Walker’s report is correct – the rest, they have no comment as it had yet to happen.
If the forests of the Earth are not protected and not allowed to rejuvenate so they can reduce the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, then the Earth will not recover. Somber thought really, considering its our actions that have brought this about.
For years, since their inception in 1944, the World Bank has funded projects across the Earth, without regard to environmental protection. For example:
- In 1981 the Bank lent Brazil US$445 million for the Northwest Brazil Integrated Development Programme to build 1500km of roads in the region of Rondonia which borders Bolivia. This allowed loggers and farmers to invade the forests and clear them for cultivation.
- The World Bank loaned millions of dollars to CIB for logging in Pokola in Congo. CIB began to illegally log highly valued trees in the Ndoki national park. The same has happened to other forests in Guinea and Ivory Coast.
- The Bank loaned $500 million to Indonesia to move several million people from the island of Java to the islands of Sumatra and New Guinea. Over 4% of the forest was felled to make way for the ‘new’ people and their farming methods – however countless more acres have fallen as the people move to new lands due to poor nutrients in the soil which have suffered monsoon erosion.
The bottom line is…. Is our earth worth even a stamp for us…and if it’s worth more than that then we better do something to save the earth, and make it safe for generations to come!!!!
