I just knew something was wrong. The usual bustling noises were missing. Was I going to be left high and dry to fend for myself? What was wrong and my God! what was that loud wailing that I could hear!!!! I rushed out of my chair and gravitated towards the high pitched sound that was resonating in my ears. My heart was in my mouth and every step seemed to take a lifetime as I neared the source of the deafening wail. My mouth fell open and I was taken aback at the sight before my eyes.
Was this a part of my house? What had happened here? My once pleasant living room with its colorful cushions and gaily fluttering curtains was but a thing of the past. Cushions were strewn all over the floor, the curtains were ripped to shreds, papers were scattered everywhere and my darling wife, where was she??? For a second, I rued my karma, was I going to be left alone and our daughter, she was only eight, but then suddenly I saw in the corner of the room, my wife with her arms flailing and her face all red and agitated.
I need to get him, she screamed!!! He has come into our house without our knowledge, kill him now or he will harm us all!!! I was shocked. Who is it that my wife wants to bump off? Who has managed to turn my calm and fun loving darling into such a state? There he is, she screamed, kill him! I turned quickly and there HE was, my wife’s nemesis- a big ugly cockroach!!! As soon as I did the honors, we burst into side splitting laughter over the entire event. I still get a kick out of the incident though in sub rosa I am forbidden to ever mention such a n event.
