Author: Mrs Kesar Patel

Had I been younger by twenty years or so, I would have listed n number of things which I do not like or rather which I would love to hate. Topping the list would be things like bitter gourd or vegetables which after all these years I am forcing my children to eat or putting down their mouths because they are healthy and not because they like. Then there would be studying or reading which I never liked to do but it is now something very dear to my heart. Then there would be writing. The thought of which sent shivers through my body but without which I cannot do now. And last would definitely be teaching for it was something that I hated the most. But now it is my profession and I cannot think of any other better career option.

But given my age, I have to list them more sensibly. So what is it that I do not like or I love to hate. Is it people? No, for I like to be with people and analyse them to be used as characters in my stories. Is it a few instances? I guess not. For all the books on positive thinking that I read I do always look for the silver lining. Then places? Yes there are some creepy places which I do not like, but then I either make them comfortable according to my taste or do not go there at all. So that also is not really something which I do not like.

That’s it! I think my list ends here. Probably I am superhuman or I am trying to please everyone. So the result is that I like everything. Let me skim through my mind and make a check list. Anger? I can handle it. Manipulation? I deftly surpass it. Hatred? I can melt it with my love. Indifference? I know how to hit on the head and make the person sit up and notice me. Then what? I am wasting my time.

Wait?? There is one attitude which I really do not like. There is one approach that I detest. And there is one feeling which I do not approve of.

The attitude which I do not like is ‘sarcasm’. I have seen people using it to convey all that which they cannot say on the face of the person. There are people who use it to throw their jealousy at the other person. Sarcasm keeps one always on the offensive. Ready to throw a dart whenever there is an opportunity. Why do you need sarcasm? It shows how weak a person is for he or she is not able to speak for oneself. What good does it achieve? Nothing. In fact the result that you want is not an appreciable one. It hurts the person on whom you throw your darts and most importantly you definitely have a less number of friends.

Weigh the profits and the losses. Definitely you have more of losses than profits. Often this attitude also gets carried away to the other people who are the near and dear ones of the person that you threw your dart on.

Life is a cycle and beware my friends nothing remains the same. Neither the people, nor the situation and certainly not the time. Everyone who is on top of the cycle has to come down and vice versa. You should always be counting your blessings and not vying or feeling jealous for the people around you.

The person you hate most today comes to help you in your time of need. Who knows he might be able to pull you out through your problems, he may help you to surface from your load of troubles he may prove to be a better guide than you yourself.

There are difficult situations at times which make you paint the other person black. But did you try to look where the problem is? Or did you simply label him because certain of your own attitudes refused to portray a clear picture?

Friends it is very important to keep our emotions in check before we throw a dart at anyone. For I feel sarcasm is an acid which harms the vessel more in which it is kept rather than on which it is poured.

If this article is a personal piece it needs to be in a lighter vein. There is ambiguity about the audience you are writing for and core idea of the article does not come through.

Here are 5 things that we liked or would change/revise:

1. Title: The title needs to be catchy and should be something that get readers interested.
2. Format: The article could do with some editing and structuring to help it flow better.
3. Grammar & Usage: The article has some grammatical/usage errors. Some sentences sound a little awkward .You may want to consider our Detailed Expert Review or editing option
4. Language: The excessive usage of I and me tends to disconnect the reader from the article. The article should be more interactive via questions to the reader, usage of the word ‘you’ etc. in the first half of the article. There is extensive use of Indian English which needs to be modified.
5. Target Audience: The article lacks a theme and meanders between a variety of different areas so it is never clear about the intent of the piece. To have a better grip on your audience you must have an arresting introduction and conclusion.
