Children are probably the most innocent living beings that god created. A newly born baby is the most precious gift that its parents could ever ask for because it is at this moment that the parent is flooding with emotions of immense joy as well as a sense of profuse responsibility. Thus creating a good environment for the child and providing proper nurturing is imperative as it is in these formative years that the child learns the values and ethics of life and his actions become clear reflections of his environment. So, here is when I ask my question- Have we been successful in doing this? Are we setting good examples for them to follow?
My young cousin came chirping to me last week, “Don’t you want to watch Kaminey? I think I will take mummy and daddy with me on the very first day, Shaahid and Priyanka look ‘hot’.” It was then that I asked myself that if a child as young as 7 years could ask me this, then should I call it poor parenting or an environment encroachment!! Well, studies in psychology clearly state that it is mainly through imitation that a child learns most of his actions. While on one hand we want to inculcate the best values in children, on the other hand we encourage them when they’re imitating or striking a pose that Kareena Kapoor did in a bikini. Phew!! Do we really know what we want out of these little kids? They are juvenile after all, it is our duty to help them maneuver such activity and direct them to the larger goals in life. Isn’t it? Undoubtedly times have changed today, one can never expect children to listen to their parents unquestionably as used to happen in earlier times. But with so much exposure today, child rearing practices have reached new horizons and profound understanding of the child’s psyche can be of great help to parents who can develop an understanding with the child only if they choose to. Can we just blame it on time and simply let go of the rich traditional values we have cultivated over so many years.
So, could we please stop making valueless money by highlighting abhorrent personal activities in shows like Sach Ka Samna or Big Boss or other shows on television which have higher use of ‘beeps’ and lesser content. And for heaven’s sake stop telecasting Rakhi Sawants ‘grief’ at Mika’s party more than 10 times in news channels just to increase the TRP’s. Cinema and the Media are a very integral part of our society today as most of our lives is centered around them. Let’s use these mediums to bring some good and decent entertainment and awareness respectively so that next time you don’t listen to a little one going “Pappu cant dance ‘saala’!!
