A very powerful question which has its roots in the power of pen. Well, it is not said for nothing that pen is mightier than sword. The written medium has been a source of revolution all through the ages. Many great leaders and saints have reached people through the written medium by showing the real face of facts to the common man. Our freedom fighters brought in a sense of aggression and rebellion attitude among people through their written works.India in particular has been a witness to the strength of the writing medium through the decades. Many such writers had to pay for their life or freedom for writing words which were stronger than swords but their sacrifice deepened their roots in the minds of people.
The word “Change” basically means a different approach or change in perception of an issue , it may be a small issue like keeping neighborhoods clean, saving energy at home/work place or it may be a big issue like uniting to fight terrorism, bringing in secularism etc. Big issues require something more than just writing, they involve mass movements, law maker intervention to bring in policy changes so that the words turn to actions.
Small changes can be easily brought about by writers by voicing their concerns in appropriate forum. Newspapers are still a part and parcel of every household even today and the views expressed in them influence even a layman. Readers do send in their comments/ views based on the articles written in newspapers, thus tinkling the thought process of many other people.
Many top novelists have actually connected with people by bringing out issues which associate with every reader’s lives. Professional writers in today’s age have also been very effective in voicing issues through their work but the readers have not been as receptive as they were four decades ago, yet they do bring in changes depending on the cause chosen and the method of expression. We have been able to bring in a culture of environmental responsibility among people, even students by launching the “Go Green” campaign through various articles bringing out facts of global warming and its effect on our lives. Swine Flu awareness is a latest achievement that has been brought about by creating awareness on the symptoms of the disease, prevention and cure on occurrence. On the financial front, investors and brokers depend on the reviews provided by leading market analysts for investing in the stock market. What’s more, every field in our day to day life is influenced by written media.
I remember having bagged an award for “Best Article” at my workplace and the ways to do a certain activity to bring in excellence penned by me were adopted at all centres. This makes me conclude that when views at such a small forum could actually change the way of doing a particular activity, writers voicing major issues do have the power to have an impact on the thought process of readers.

The article eloquently expresses the central idea and the conviction of the writer comes through very clearly. The article moves quickly from one issue to the other without dwelling on any particular issue or explaining it better. An arresting introduction would have helped draw in the reader from the outset. This article does not have too many grammatical errors, but a through edit would help improve the overall quality and make the article publication ready.
