The workshop was fun, it helped me to notice stuff in music! – Daya  Ambirajan

Report on the workshop

Editing Course

“The test is user-friendly. The test introduces one concept at a time with sufficient examples. In fact, multiple examples are provided to clarify the same “Learning Point”. Some of the examples are amusing and keeps the reader interested in the learning and evaluation process. Every correct answer is explained and justified.

This is a very effective way to learn a grammar concept. Most grammar books we use in class are awfully dull. We technical writers use “Fowler’s Modern English Usage” or “Chicago Style Manual” in our classes. They are informative books but they are hardly entertaining. Hence, one cannot read them from cover to cover. The Chillibreeze course uses simple and direct language, large font size, few sentences in each page and evaluates the reader after teaching a learning point. This helps sustain the reader’s interest in the learning.
— Saborna Roychowdhury

This editing course has solved many a confusion in my head and in my writing. Thanks! It is a wonderful course, easy to understand and very informative. It takes care of the little doubts that suddenly surface while writing. The best part is I can keep revising it over and over.”
— Indoo Srinivasan

“I really enjoyed doing the unit overall. Learned some rather interesting comma uses, ones that I wasn’t even aware existed!

Please convey my congratulations to the course creators – such courses are a nightmare to create, especially in terms of programming – and they’ve done exceptionally well.
— Shefali Sunderan Harsha on the Commas Units

“Given the variations in the English language and the personal preference of users, it is a challenge to teach the diverse uses of punctuation marks. The content, however, does complete justice, so kudos to the course creators!
— Shefali Sunderan Harsha on the Colons and Semicolons Units

Assessments & Tests

“I took the Travel Writer’s Assessment Test with great trepidation. I was, after all, taking a test after twenty years! But when I received my results (!), I was more than happy that I took the test. It brought out those little (and not so little!) gremlins in my writing, which had totally escaped my notice and I do believe that working on them will add that extra edge to my output. The feedback was most pertinent and valuable and what’s more, it was delivered in the most pleasant way!”
— Bhagyalakshmi Krishnamurthy – writing for a decade and a half and still learning!

“The editing test conducted by Chillibreeze takes into consideration many aspects of editing and many types of editing. I enjoyed taking the test. It has been so designed that at whatever stage one is in (in one’s career graph), one can upgrade oneself. The assessment is thorough and transparent.

More than anything else, the test – the concept, conduct and assessment – has elevated writers and editors from the status of “pocket money earners” to serious professionals, especially Indian writers and editors.” — Kanaka Cadambi, Freelance Editor with 25 years of experience

“The editing test was quite comprehensive. It caught me by surprise because I wasn’t prepared to be assessed on so many aspects of editing. Even though I had been entrusted with quite a few editing assignments in the past, and received very good reviews on them, the test was an eye-opener. The results of the test have made me think, rethink and rework the way I approach editing jobs now. I am glad I took the test because now my clients will receive the full benefit of my brand new approach to my editing jobs.”
— Sharon Colaco D’Souza,  freelance writer and editor, home interiors blogger

“The editing test developed by Chillibreeze is focused and comprehensive. It quantifies all aspects of editing such as spelling, punctuation and grammar; syntax, vocabulary, expression and readability; proof-reading and formatting. Overall, it measures the extent to which the final output is ready to go to press.

The test can be applied to advanced levels of editing work, required in producing high-value and prestigious publications.
— Shubha Khandekar, editor, writer and translator with 25 years of work experience

“The Chillibreeze Editing Assessment which I worked on presented a wide variety of editorial challenges.  The level of difficulty ranged from moderate to tough.  After several years of working as an editor, one tends to become a little complacent about one’s abilities. The assessment helped me to understand and plug loopholes in my editing skills.”
— Poornima Narayanan

“The test is an effective benchmark of my editing skills and would be a good reference for a potential client or employer. It is a challenging and interesting assignment, and the feedback is useful as it focuses on specific parameters (grammar/spelling/readability/formatting and so on), rather than a general overview. Getting an unbiased assessment from a reliable source would definitely make it easier for a client to ascertain the worth of my work.”

Corporate Training Services

Our team of researchers, with background in economics and finance, had little knowledge about press release writing. But I was very impressed with Chillibreeze expertise and how well they shared their knowledge during the training sessions. The course structure was particularly good: explaining the parameters then following up with practical exercises. It kept the team engaged and they learned elements required for effective writing.

Do-it-Yourself Projects(earlier known as Write Match – Project Matching Service)

I think it was my lucky day when I applied to one of the DIY projects on the Chillibreeze forum about a month ago. This was a project for content writing on Indian art. Everything went like clockwork. A day after I e-mailed the client, they got back to me with their requirements. The payment details were clearly spelt out. I was to send them a sample article based on their template and would be paid an advance as well.

I prepared a Project Note, putting down all the details we had discussed through e-mails (thank you, Chillibreeze, for teaching me how this is done through all the projects I have worked on with you!). This may seem tedious but for absent-minded me, it was a must-do. I also informed the client exactly how much work I could complete per week.

I received the advance payment as promised. After completing the assignment, I mailed them an invoice. I have also been retained for a second assignment…”

—Poornima Narayanan

Thanks for sharing these projects. I bid for the financial planning blog sent by you a few weeks ago. I finished one round of submissions and got paid for it too. This project requires lower volumes and it suits my schedule well.
I’d like to thank you and Chillibreeze for introducing me to this assignment. Please share updates of any new assignments so that we can get opportunities on a regular basis. This is a good way for both writers and employers to connect with each other.
— Sridhar

ePublishing & Manuscript Evaluation Services

The editorial support, preparation of design and layout and the cover artwork provided by the Chillifreeze ePublishing services were fantastic. I believe if an e-book is properly and intelligently marketed then it can reach a much larger audience than a traditionally published book of same quality, at a much lower cost and by consuming lesser quantum of energy.
— Sabarna Roy (Had his book of short stories debut on Chillibreeze in 2008 has just had his book of poems ‘Mainak and I’ published on Chillifreeze)

I chose CF for publishing my ‘City of Victory’ e-book because I think they are a friendly and accommodating bunch of people one can always rely on. Reliability is a rare phenomenon in cyberspace. My second reason is that I was looking for an Indian publisher for my Indian tale; a publisher who would not have rigid ideas about the length of the manuscript. As I always say, write from the heart, and THEN find your market. Not an easy thing to do. But I found CF!
— Anita Saran( Author of ‘City of Victory’)
