Accentuate is an online forum meant for writers, new or seasoned, published or yet to be published, and people who just want to learn more about writing, freelancing, and editing.

Primary features

Primarily composed of a set of people who take writing seriously, this forum is insightful and resourceful. It has a large membership base though there are regulars that you can see on almost every forum who post messages and exchange notes. There are editors, freelancers, novelists and poets in this forum, just to mention a few. There are several discussion forums to participate and receive insights.

Highlights

The layout of the website is simple, thereby making it easy to navigate around. There is a simple registration process to get started. To reply or start new posts, you need to be registered. Registration is not required to merely view posts, but the administrators may change this option from time to time. The site is very well organised in that it has an FAQ section that serves as a practical guide to use the site. The chief highlight is the U2U facility – a messaging client facility that can be used to send and receive messages from fellow members. You may discuss issues, one-on-one with fellow members, in private, without having to post them on the forums.

Writing jobs and contests

Seeking writing jobs that pay? This forum offers blogging, content developing projects and mention the expected pay as well. They also provide links to useful sites that one may want to contribute to. There are countless links to sites that offer writing gigs. Members discuss the pay/ requirements – it is like having a writing buddy sit right next to you to debate and find the best paying writing jobs. With all the information, you could find a job that is right up your alley. The forum also provides information on magazines, print and online, that accept articles, fiction, short stories, snippets and such for publication. Discussions on average pay rates, response times and guidelines by fellow members will be truly useful to a newbie in the world of freelance writing.

This forum also provides information on writing contests hosted by other online resources and magazines. They even list contests separately as those that need and entry fee, and those that do not. In addition the accentuate forum itself comes up with contests along with entry guidelines and topics for each month.

Writing workshop

This extremely interactive forum, offers periodic writing prompts to spark the writing bug and to get your ideas flowing. The writing prompts range from interesting to downright hilarious. A very useful place to peek into, this forum warns writers of potential pitfalls and frauds. It is also a good place to check for legitimacy of online publishing agencies. They also warn you against sites that misuse samples and those that are total scams. Fellow writers and moderators of the forum update these and when they come across such sites.

Other stuff

As rightly named, stuff that does not fit into the rest of the forums go right in here. This includes writing resources where writers share links to websites that are beneficial to writers, it offers a sub-forum to gloat over your success as a writer and share the information. It even offers a place to sell old or new books or writing related items, eBooks and more.
