The Readers Read web site offers book reviews, news, best seller lists, a book blog, author interviews and more. The site is part of the Writers Write Lifestyle Network and among other things, has an interesting section of book extracts where you can sometimes even download entire ebooks as part of limited period offers.
Interviews
The interviews here are not necessarily with interviewers from Readers Read, but are published with permission from other sites (and therefore complete). The names though are big and many will be very familiar to even the average reader. Most interviews revolve around a particular book by a specific author. The books are popular titles that are easy to find at your neighborhood bookstore and the interviews delve into aspects of key characters making them good fun if you have already read the book in question.
Some interviews that were up on the site when we checked it included names like David Baldacci, Meg Cabot and Michael Crichton. The site has interviews with award winning writers like Jhumpa Lahiri side by side with discussions with more mainstream writers like Nicholas Sparks and Lauren Weisberger.
Essays and Articles
There are some short essays and articles on book related themes by published authors. Especially interesting were the articles The Call That Changed My Life (on how being included on Oprah’s Book Club list made her famous) and the short essays on what inspired different writers to write some of their best work.
Award Winners, Best Books and Bestseller Lists
Check out the links on the left to get to some of the best reading. The awards link takes you a page that lists all the top awards in the world of writing over the years. In the Best Sellers section you can check out which books topped the New York Times list and Amazon.com list in different genres. The Best Books section hasn’t been updated recently but is meant to list readers and editors favorites for the year.
Classifieds
The classifieds section lists books, audio books and other sites where you can buy first editions, audio books and more. They offer an ad placement service, but since some sections of the site have not be updated recently, I would suggest first making contact with someone at the site to ensure they will genuinely upload your ad after you pay up.
News Blog
The site carries news on the latest books being published by leading publishing houses and also tells you about what the hot sellers are. Don’t count on finding out about content industry changes or new writers signing deals. What you will find though, are headlines on the big names, best sellers and big deals.
The Readers Read Site is not one of those in-depth sites that can keep you engaged for hours. However, the site has plenty to offer in terms of links to other useful sites in their network plus plenty of book reviews and some interesting author interviews. This is, as it claims, quite clearly a site for the Reader.
VITAL STATS
Site: Readers Read
URL: http://www.readersread.com/
Features: A site for the avid reader. Plenty of interviews plus essays and reviews of best-selling books, lists of award winning books and more.
Summary: A site for readers more than the writer, but fiction writers and book reviewers will find plenty to keep them engaged.
