The Writers Manifesto is a site that will make you feel instantly at home. With an easy style of writing and exactly the kind of insider tips you are looking for, it is a good place to park yourself on a day off from work. Learn how to improve your online positioning, hone your marketing skills and make more money.
Learn How to Earn More Money
This novel idea appealed greatly to the hack in me and I greedily headed to the Earn Money section. The page starts with some tips to what you should do to manage your writing career. Basic things like creating one folder for each site you work for may seem obvious but are things we often forget to do.
What started well and seemed to have a lot of potential soon fell short of the lofty expectations I had for it. The site is sorely lacking in listings of markets, sites and income earning opportunities. So what one is left with is a handful of useful tips but no real meat on how to actually make the big bucks.
Articles
The site has a substantial collection of articles covering different aspects of marketing online, SEO tips, advertising tips and a bunch of other non-core(to writing) areas. So what about writing about writing? That’s limited. The idea of this section isn’t to help you hone your writing skills. It assumes you already are a good writer and all you need are better marketing skills. This section tries to equip you with that so your blogs and sites and your profile as a writer gets noticed and moves up the rankings.
Blog
This was by far the most interesting section for me. The best freelance writing job site lists are handy and I wondered why they hadn’t been put in the Earn Money section too. There are also handy tips on blogging and making your relationships with clients work for you.
Marketing
In the marketing section of the site you’ll find a list of forums and article directories handpicked by the site creator. Nothing really unusual or new here, you have probably heard of many of these sites already. But if you haven’t, then this is a good page to find out about the sites where you can post your articles (they don’t pay you for the articles, but you get a link to your site or blog for free at most of them).
If it is still up when you visit this site, check out the Earn Money Writing Articles column on the right. Some handy tips and links there to help you get on your way to making money off your writing.
The trouble with this seemingly brilliant site is that it promises more than it actually delivers. It is a good place to check back with once every few months, but may not offer much by way of depth of information on writing. Where it wins though, is in its aim to be a skill builder for the already well trained and quality writer to help him/her market themselves better using the internet. And in its blog are some real gems that may be worth a second look.
