Writer Interviews, Rohit Rao, Young Indian Writer, Writing Bee Contest Winner

Rohit is a curious, inquisitive and friendly 10 year old boy studying in Class 6, who loves reading, writing and art. He likes to write about his experiences and shares some of them on his blog. His favourite sports are football and basketball and his favourite TV show is “Phineas and Ferb”.

Congratulations on winning the Writing Bee Rohit! Everyone would like to know more about you, do tell us more about yourself.

What made you pick this particular book to write about? Why is it your favorite book?

This series had been an absolute favourite of mine, ever since I have started reading these Charlie Small books. This book sounded very exciting and overboard with adventures of the intrepid explorer that I couldn’t help but choose this book. I really enjoyed this book and it was gripping, adventurous, exciting and witty and filled with action from start to end.

If you could be any fictional character you have read about, who would you like to be? What is it you like about him/her?

I would be many different characters, as I have read really a lot of books with the most remarkable characters in the whole entire world. Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock 3, Jack in ‘the Magic Tree House series’, and of course, Charlie Small, are some characters that I really like for they are all witty, adventurous, and extraordinary. Though for Percy Jackson, I have a special reason; I would just love to be the son of Poseidon, the Sea God!

When did you start enjoying reading?

I cannot remember exactly when I started enjoying reading, but vaguely think that after reading ‘Aussie Nibbles’ series of books at the age of 5,  I developed a great liking for reading.

Do you like to buy books and keep them to read again and again, or do you prefer libraries so you can read tons and tons of different books?

I have bought books almost up to the hundreds but yet, deep down inside, I prefer libraries, to read tons and tons of books, most of them different from each other.

Who are your favourite authors?

My favourite authors are: Rick Riordon  (author of ‘Percy Jackson), Mary Pope Osborn (author of ‘Magic Tree House series’), Charlie Small, Cresida Cowel (author of ‘Hiccup Horrendous Haddock 3), and Ray Bradbury (though I pretty much could not understand the only book that I read written by him, I really liked his style!!)

What book are you reading right now?

Right now, I’m reading a book called ‘William-the Pirate’ by Richmal Crompton. It is a very interesting read, filled with immensely cool chapters and sly wit by the author.

What do you like to do when you aren’t reading or writing?

When I’m not reading or writing,  I’m playing on electronic devices, just plain playing (football, basketball, cycling, in the park), making comics (or just plain drawing) or playing with my little sister.

What would you like to be when you grow up?

I haven’t yet decided. Right now I would like to either be an author, a cartoonist, an archaeologist, an astronaut or all of those things combined.
